The Istituto Europeo di Deign organized, in collaboration with Universidad Anáhuac, the congress Mexico Design Net: Experience the City, that was celebrated in the Historic Center of Mexico City and other venues. Mexico Design Net is a project of urban development in which universities from all over the world participated. In the edition that was celebrated in Mexico, 650 students from different disciplines of design had the opportunity to improve the life’s of the citizens of Mexico City, either by improving the designs of current urban services and products, or by developing new ones. The congress followed the model created by the IED DesignNet, in which over 2,500 students participated. The workshops, exhibitions and lectures were curated following themes like The Network City, The Utopia of Boroughs, Sustainability, Mobility, Living Spaces, Culture and Urban Studies. The objective of these workshops were to answer specific problems of the Historic Center of Mexico City.

Above:
A digital keynote presentation about the opening of MexicoDesignNet that I put together for speaker, Director Riccardo Marzullo.

My Personal Contribution:

− Four months creating strategies for the development and projection of the platform.
− Research, outlining and creation of processes for the project.
− Adaptation of design and approach of the methodological tool, IED Toolkit.
− Creation of content and visuals for the digital keynote presentation in collaboration with Maiko Arrieta.

		<description>

MadridDesignNet is composed of a creative community, a set of technological applications (madriddesignnet.com), days of investigation and transversal work, and a tool for strengthening innovation and creativity (IED ToolKit).
It is a current platform, innovative, sustainable and socially committed, intended to stimulate ideas and visions. It conceives a new sense of what is local using what is global as a reference point, where new social sensitivities demand that new physical, social and cultural resources be evaluated. Its main objective is to be a permanent laboratory of ideas for improving citizens’ quality of life.

This initiative is the driving force behind various different actions, interconnecting through a multiplicity of different actors in various cities throughout the continents of the world, all of whom are focusing on this one issue. It proposes a unique meeting, one that traces a world map of design trends and significant innovations aimed at experimentation and innovation.

For the first edition, IED Madrid relied on the support of the “Office of International Strategy and Action for a Global Madrid, of the City Council of Madrid” with whom we shared objectives and impetus for action.

IED Madrid, institutional partner of the Madrid Pavilion at the Expo 2010 Shanghai, China, showcased MadridDesignNet on October 11. Madrid’s program of activities, which ran from October 9 to 17, included not only exhibitions at both the Bamboo House and the Air Tree, but also the workshop Me and my City, intended for Chinese students from the Doghua University. The MadridDesignNet program also included the conference Innovation and Technology in Developing the Cities of Tomorrow, which was held on October 13 at the Tongji University of Shanghai.

Cities:

In this edition, the workshops were developed in a simultaneous and coordinated way with IED Madrid, from universities and institutions in the following cities:

Barcelona, Spain
Bogotá, Colombia
México City, México
Dalian, China
Lima, Perú
London, United Kingdom
Madrid, Spain
Malmö, Switzerland
Milán, Italy
Moscow, Russia
Querétaro, México
Rome, Italy
Santiago, Chile
São Paulo, Brazil
Shanghái, China
Turin, Italy
Jakarta, Indonesia

     Universities and Institutions:

More than 20 universities from three continents participated actively in MadridDesignNet while the workshops were carried out in the multiple cities.

Istituto Europeo di Design, Barcelona, Spain
Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano, Bogotá, Colombia
Universidad Anáuhac, México City, México
Dalian Polythecnic University, Dalian, China
Corriente Alterna, Lima, Perú
Istituto Italiano di Cultura, London, United Kingdom
Istituto Europeo di Design, Madrid, Spain
IKDC Lund University, Malmo, Switzerland
Istituto Europeo di Design, Milan, Italy
British Higher School of Art and Design, Moscow, Russia
Universidad del Pacífico, Santiago, Chile
Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey, Querétaro, México

Istituto Europeo di Design, São Paulo, Brasil
College of Design &#38; Innovation, Tongji University, Shanghái, China
Istituto Europeo di Design, Turin, Italy
Pelita Harapan University, Jakarta, Indonesia
Results:
- As a result, the project was presented at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, “Better City, Better Life” as a Best Urban Practice of Madrid.
- Over 1,000 proposals were created on how to improve urban life within the city.

The development of this online game for CEAPAT (State Reference Center for Personal Autonomy and Technical Aids), was established as an efficient and interactive teaching tool, which raised awareness in nondisabled students between the ages of 12 and 17 about the reality of disabled people in terms of mobility and quality of life in the city, while it encouraged them to make their own and critical analysis of urban infrastructure.

The mission of the National Reference Centre for Personal Autonomy and Technical Aids (Ceapat) is to contribute to making the rights of persons with disabilities and older persons effective, through integral accessibility, assistive products and technologies and design for all.

In 2007, the Istituto Europeo di Design implemented the first edition of the European Design Labs Master in which students gauged the pulse of the current design panorama in Europe through one-week trips to European capitals.

My involvement was as the graphic design tutor in this experimental design course that draws together different creative visions with the participation of some of the best professionals from all over Europe. The students developed fresh design approaches within an open-ended creative process that led to a rich repertoire of design solutions.

For this Master’s I developed a guide for students and a website to facilitate internal communications.

Trips:
The trips allowed participants to enrich their perspective and level of specialization. They are conceived as another educational experience, essential for students to create a map of European trends and structure their thoughts as international designers.

Visited countries: Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, France, UK, Portugal, Spain, Germany

Within six years of working with Danone, their various online communication needs were served such as the development of multiple creative communication strategies expressed through websites, promotions and micro-sites.

In 2010, a new website was developed that adapts both to the new strategies as well as to the loyalty and objectives of the brand.

Groupe Danone is a French food-products multinational corporation based in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. It claims world leadership in fresh dairy products, marketed under the corporate name, and also in bottled water. In 2007 it swapped its world number 2 position as producer of cereals and biscuits for the same position in baby foods, having sold the biscuits division to Kraft Foods[3] and acquired Numico. In the United States, the Danone brand is marketed as Dannon, a subsidiary of Groupe Danone (under the name The Dannon Company).
